Walk & Talk

Walk & Talk is a project based in Lambeth and Southwark, funded by Walking and Cycling Grants, a programme funded by Transport for London (TfL) and managed by the environment regeneration charity, Groundwork London

The Walk & Talk Project is a 3-year project starting in 2020, which targets socially isolated migrant families and residents in Lambeth and Southwark. The project aims to support integration, health and inclusivity in South London by training and supporting a team of 20 local volunteers to plan and run thematic community-based walks for the local community.

In addition to encouraging people to take more exercise, the project will have the added benefit of using walking and talking as an innovative approach to supporting integration. The varied programme of thematic walks will enable local residents and families to

  • build their confidence in meeting and interacting with other local people
  • develop their language skills if English is not their first language
  • increase their knowledge of their local area
  • walk confidently and independently around their local area
  • find out about local services, support and recreational opportunities

This short video documents a really interesting walk around Peckham, south London. It was a beautiful summer’s day. The walk leader, a local resident, had lots of historical information to share. Walkers were also local people. It was lovely for the group to share lunch in a beautiful little garden hidden in the backstreets of Peckham. This walk was organised in partnership with Parentskills2go, a south London based parent led organisation which provides activities and events for families.
