Teaching assistant training Level 2/3 – 1 year course (110 hours training) plus a work placement

This course is ideal for anyone interested in becoming a primary school Teaching Assistant. The course provides learners with the skills knowledge and confidence to understand how children learn and to support their learning and achievement. As well as weekly input sessions,  trainees need to arrange a placement in a school where they can be observed by their tutor. This course leads to a nationally recognised City & Guilds qualification, either the Award or the Certificate in Supporting teaching and learning in schools.

Preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector (PTLLS)

PTLLS is an introductory programme ideal for people working, or planning to work, in a role in which they run training or information sessions for adults. Learning Unlimited can offer specialised PTLLS courses in both family learning and ESOL for people wishing to run sessions for families, parents and carers. The course leads to a nationally recognised qualification in teaching adults.

Advanced numeracy – Level 3 preparation for numeracy teacher education courses

This 40 – 60 hour course has been designed to prepare participants for entry to adult numeracy initial teacher education programmes. The course looks at a range of topics including

  • a review of mathematical concepts ‐ number, ratio, area and volume
  • the building of personal numeracy skills ‐ algebra, trigonometry and statistics
  • a focus on processing skills in mathematics ‐ analysing learner errors, interpreting and evaluating results.
