Amir Amininan
ESOL learner and conversation club participant, CLIP
Amir regularly attended ESOL classes and online conversation clubs as part of the Communities, Language and Integration Project (CLIP). He grew in confidence throughout his time with us and you can see him below speaking at the Lambeth Citizens assembly about his experiences in the UK, accompanied by Karen Dudley.
“My name’s Amir and I’m from Iran.
My first experiences in the UK were very difficult. I had big problems with everything because I couldn’t speak English.
Unfortunately I couldn’t find any ESOL classes very easily. So at first I started to learn English on my own so I didn’t have direct contact with other people.
Fortunately a teacher at CARAS told me about the Learning Unlimited conversation clubs. These really lit a fire in me.
They helped me build my confidence and speak more confidently because English is a second language for all of us.
After that I started ESOL classes.”
