Accredited training for teaching assistants

OCNLR Level 1 Award in Preparing to Work in Schools
This course provides an introduction to working in primary schools as a Teaching Assistant (TA).  Participants will gain knowledge and skills which will help to prepare them to work in primary schools.  It is an ideal introduction to TA work and is great preparation for starting TA training at level 2.  Learners will gain an OCNLR qualification.

City & Guilds Award in Support Work in Schools (level 2)
This course is ideal for anyone interested in becoming a primary school Teaching Assistant. The course provides learners with the skills, knowledge and confidence to understand how children learn and to support their learning and achievement. Learners will gain a nationally-recognised City & Guilds qualification.

Frequently asked questions about the level 2 award

City & Guilds Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (level 2)
This course is for learners who have already completed the City & Guilds Award in Support Work in Schools (Level 2). The course helps to progress learners’ careers as teaching assistants as it includes a placement as a TA in a primary school to give practical experience (placements organised by learners themselves). Learners will gain a nationally-recognised City & Guilds qualification.

Accredited training for teachers

Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET)
AET is an introductory programme ideal for people working, or planning to work, in a role in which they run training or information sessions for adults. Learning Unlimited can offer specialised AET courses in both family learning and ESOL for people wishing to run sessions for adults, families, parents and carers. The course leads to a nationally recognised qualification in teaching adults.
