Connecting Families project volunteer
“I started my Connecting Families volunteer training in 2019. I was sure it was something I wanted to be a part of but it had been a while since I’ve worked with other adults so I felt quite anxious.
Foufou, Tessa and Karen managed the project and they were absolutely wonderful and welcoming and within the first session I was so happy I had decided to come along.
Week by week my confidence grew and the knowledge they had shared with us was invaluable because, if I’m honest I wasn’t just learning how to help connect other families, I was learning to help keep my own connected too.
Working with the other volunteers was amazing, they all had so much information to share and we spent weeks learning and then planning how to put that training into action to successfully run our own themed family workshops which was so fun. I feel we really made a difference to local families and families new to the area to connect with other local families and also service providers they might not have otherwise known or heard about.
Since taking part I have found full time employment doing something that I love and something I didn’t have the confidence to before taking part, so thank you.”
