Kids UK
10, 20 or 30 week course

This course is aimed at parents who have either recently arrived in the UK with young children or new parents who arrived in the UK before having children.

Course content: The course looks at the ‘culture’ of childcare in the UK and how to support  children within it. Topics covered include behaviour and discipline, child-centred approaches to teaching, the role of parents in children’s education, the importance of early childhood bilingualism and what to look for when choosing schools for children.

Family French
One day workshops or 10, 20 or 30 week course

The lively, fun and interactive sessions are run by native French speakers and are aimed at family groups including toddlers to primary school aged children.

Course content:  Parents/carers and their children can all enjoy developing some basic French conversation skills together through games, songs and interactive activities.

Literacy for ESOL learners

10, 20 or 30 week course

This very popular course is aimed at ESOL learners who have progressed to level 1 in speaking and listening and who would like to improve their written English.

Course content:  The content of each course is based on the literacy levels and interests of the learners themselves. Leaners will be supported to develop their reading, writing, spelling, vocabulary and grammar using a wide range of topic-based activities.

ESOL for parents
10, 20 or 30 week course

Practical and lively  ESOL (English language) classes for parents whose first language is not English.

Course content:  The content of each course is based on the language levels and interests of the learners themselves. Leaners will be supported to develop their speaking, listening, reading, writing, spelling, vocabulary and grammar using a wide range of topic-based activities. Sessions can be designed for a range of levels from absolute beginners up to intermediate level, or for mixed ability groups.

Parent mentor training
18 – 20 week course

A popular course aimed at parents who are keen to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to support other parents.

Course content:  This course covers  understanding peer mentoring, the development  of peer mentoring skills, supporting bilingual families, understanding learning styles and working in partnership with other organisations. The course is accredited at Level 2 and leads to an Award in Peer mentoring.

All our languages
10 week course

This popular course is aimed at parents bringing up children in a bilingual environment, i.e. speaking one or more languages other than English at home.

Course content: The course covers the advantages of being bilingual, research into bilingualism, strategies for encouraging childhood bilingualism, developing bilingual resources and  choosing schools that value bilingualism. The course can be run in a wide range of settings including, for example,  children’s centres, schools and faith centres.

Family language

Practical and lively  ESOL (English language) classes for parents whose first language is not English.

Course content:  The content of each course is based on the language levels and interests of the learners themselves. However, the main language focus is on language for families and which parents and children can use together. Learners will be supported to develop their speaking, listening, reading, writing, spelling, vocabulary and grammar using a wide range of family-focused activities. Sessions can be designed for a range of levels from absolute beginners up to intermediate level, or for mixed ability groups.
