Helping my child with numeracy

10 to 20 session course

This useful and practical course is aimed at parents and carers of nursery or primary school aged children who would like to develop their skills, knowledge and confidence to help their child with numeracy/mathematics.

Course content: Parents and carers can find out about how children are taught maths in the UK school system.  They also get lots of practical and fun ideas  for supporting children with maths  and make  games and resources to take home to use with their children. Participants can also get support with their own maths skills and, if they are interested, we can offer the opportunity to get accreditation in mathematics.

Keeping up with the children
10 to 20 session course

This popular course is aimed at parents and carers of children at nursery or primary school who would like to help their child with numeracy/mathematics and need to improve their own mathematics and confidence too.

Course content: Participants are taught and supported  by teachers experienced in working with adults who may lack confidence in maths. Parents and carers are also helped to understand the methods that are used to teach children maths in the UK school system. They get plenty of ideas for activities to do with their children at home. They also have the opportunity to work towards maths accreditation at the end of their course.

Maths for parents

15 to 30 session course

This course is aimed at parents/carers who are mainly interested in improving their own maths skills.

Course content:  The main focus of the course is on improving personal maths skills and the course is intended to lead towards accreditation at an appropriate level for each learner.

Maths for teaching assistants
15 to 30 session course

This course is aimed at teaching assistants who need to improve their maths.

Course content: There is a focus on using current methods used in schools in the UK. The course can lead towards accreditation at an appropriate level (City & Guilds level 1 or 2).

Games and activities for supporting your child’s numeracy

6 to 10 session course

This practical, short course is for parents and carers who would like ideas for helping their child with numeracy/mathematics.

Course content: Parents get plenty of useful information about what their children are learning in mathematics. They get lots of practical ideas about how they can help children with mathematics at home and make games to take home and try out with their children.

Family literacy

This very popular course is aimed at adult learners who are fluent in English but  would like to improve their reading and writing skills in English.

Course content:  The content of each course is based on the literacy levels and interests of the learners themselves with a particular focus on literacy for families. Learners will be supported to develop their reading, writing, spelling, vocabulary and grammar using a wide range of topic-based activities.

Literacy for ESOL learners

10, 20 or 30 session course

This very popular course is aimed at ESOL learners who have progressed to Level 1 in speaking and listening and who would like to improve their written English.

Course content:  The content of each course is based on the literacy levels and interests of the learners themselves. Leaners will be supported to develop their reading, writing, spelling, vocabulary and grammar using a wide range of topic-based activities.

ESOL for parents
10, 20 or 30 session course

Practical and lively  ESOL (English language) classes for parents whose first language is not English.

Course content:  The content of each course is based on the language levels and interests of the learners themselves. Learners will be supported to develop their speaking, listening, reading, writing, spelling, vocabulary and grammar using a wide range of topic-based activities. Sessions can be designed for a range of levels from absolute beginners up to intermediate level, or for mixed ability groups.

Family language
10, 20 or 30 session course

Practical and lively  ESOL (English language) classes for parents whose first language is not English.

Course content:  The content of each course is based on the language levels and interests of the learners themselves. However, the main language focus is on language for families and which parents and children can use together. Learners will be supported to develop their speaking, listening, reading, writing, spelling, vocabulary and grammar using a wide range of family-focused activities. Sessions can be designed for a range of levels from absolute beginners up to intermediate level, or for mixed ability groups.
